What is Conscious Sedation?
Conscious Sedation is a procedure in which your are administered sedative hypnotic medication which allows you to relax while we work on you. You will be in a dream-like state, but you will be able to respond to our questions and respond to us. It will be hard to keep track of time and once the medication takes effect, all of your worries will be gone.
What is the Difference between Oral Conscious Sedation and IV Conscious Sedation?
IV Sedation is quicker and more profound because of the use of the IV and different types of medicine. You do not need to premedicate and it will take close to 30 seconds for you to fall into a dream-like state. Oral Sedation involves taking pills the night before, the morning of, and during your sedation appointment. This sometimes can take 30 minutes to get to the dreamlike state. Both methods are great for relaxation dentistry, Oral sedation is sometimes chosen by people who are afraid of needles. Is Conscious Sedation safe?

Will I be able to drive to and from the appointment?
No. You will have to have an adult bring you to and from the appointment.
How will I feel after the appointment?
You will feel very sleepy. Most patients return home with the help of their guardian and sleep for the rest of the day. Drink plenty of fluids and take the analgesic medications that Dr. Divis prescribed for you.
